United Arab Emirates
The United Arab Emirates is a federation of seven individual Emirates, formerly known as the Trucial States, which came together after British withdrawal from east of Suez in December 1971 to form the Arabian Peninsula's youngest country.

Largest and most populous is the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, which provides the federal capital, while the other members, in order of size, are Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Umm Al Qaiqain and Ajman.

For around a century and a half from 1820, the sheikhdoms, or Emirates, had treaties with Britain, which controlled their foreign affairs and ezternal defence, although they retained their own individual autoomy and sovereignty.

Since 1971, the country has been an active member of international organisations like UN and its specialised agencies, the League of Arab States, the Non-Aligned Movement and the Organisation of hte Islamic Conference.
Education in UAE
The Government educational system now recaches into evrey small village, even in the remote mountain regions, while there a host of nurseries and adult teaching centres to cater for the very young and old alike.

No longer do UAE students have to go abroad for further education. Since 1977, hte UAE has had its won institution of higher education, the Emitates University, in the inlad oasis-city of Al Ain, with nearly 15,000 students, both men and women.
It has already produced nearly 12,000 graduates.

Since 1988, this has been complemented by a chain of Higher Colleges of Technology, in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Al Ain and Sharjah, providing a more technologically-oriented form of training that can equip students to play an effective part in the continued building of hteir country. Nearly 12.000 students are currently at the colleges.

The Ministry of Education also sponsors around 3,000 UAE students in undergraduate and postgraduate training in Universities and Colleges abroad.
